Park City Marathon is in its ninth year in 2005. This is the only marathon in Park City, and it is also part of the Utah Grand Slam, which is a five-marathons-in-five-months event for the hard core marathoner. What makes the Park City Marathon special is really two fold: This course is simply the most scenic and varied of any course in the West. Situated to make the most of the pristine alpine setting, a portion of the course winds through historic mining-era Old Town with its quaint turn-of-the-century architecture. The runners even pass over a bridge used by skiers during the winter! The course incorporates approximately 13 miles of well-maintained trails, which meander past horse pastures, rushing streams, along the Rail Trail and through our City Park. Generally in mid-June the mountains are a brilliant shade of green, with snow still clinging to the highest peaks?a spectacular backdrop for the runners. Secondly, while we are not a big marathon, we endeavor to make our event the most ?runner friendly? in the state. Every year our race gets better because we really listen to the runner feedback, and try to incorporate as many of these comments into each successive race.
This year, the ?50 States Club?, a nationwide running group whose members are in the process of running a marathon in all 50 states has chosen the Park City Marathon as their ?reunion run?, a time for these marathoners to get together to compare notes and participate in our beautiful event.
Start/finish of this loop course is located at Trailside Park. From I-80 East, exit onto Hwy 40 east and go one exit to Silver Summit. Turn right and proceed one mile to start/finish area.
