The marathon starts a half mile south of the Peralta Trailhead on Peralta Road. The first six miles are on a well-maintained, unpaved road through beautiful desert vistas. The seventh mile of Peralta Road is a newly paved four-lane boulevard. The course transitions to US 60 for 1.5 miles and then turns north on Kings Ranch Road for a tour of the beautiful and historic Kings Ranch and Gold Canyon area. There are rolling hills in this area, but the focus is on the majestic view of the famous Superstition Mountains immediately to the north that rise straight up from an elevation of 2000? to 5000?. The course returns to US 60 at approximately the 15 mile mark and follows US 60 for another 1.5 miles to Mountain View Road. The course follows Mountain View Road, with a couple of diversions, to Lost Dutchman Boulevard. Immediately upon turning onto Lost Dutchman Boulevard, runners will notice a hill with a wall at the top. The hill is a tenth of a mile from bottom to top with a 50 foot elevation gain and is reverently called The Dutchman?s Revenge (pictured, right). From the top of the hill you will be able to see the finish line a little over three miles in the distance at Prospector Park on North Idaho Road.
OTHER RACE COURSES: There will be mile markers on each race course. All races, with the exception of the 2-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk, will be timed using the ChampionChip Timing System.
The Half Marathon begins and ends in Prospector Park, and is an out-and-back over the last 6.55 miles of the Marathon course.
The 10K begins and ends in Prospector Park, and is an out-and-back over the last 3.05 miles of the Marathon course.
The 8K is a desert trail run starting and ending in Prospector Park.
The 2-Mile Family Fun/Run Walk starts and ends in Prospector Park, and loops out onto Idaho Road.
Courtesy Clothing Drop: There will be clothing bag drop zone in Prospector Park for the convenience of the runners not wishing to return to their cars.
PARKING: Parking for all races will be available at the Rodeo Grounds. Access to the Rodeo Grounds will be via Tomahawk Drive only. Lost Dutchman Boulevard will be closed at 8:15 AM. For runners and spectators there will constantly be two buses running between the Rodeo Grounds and Prospector Park; however, if you wish to exercise, the walk will be approximately 0.9 miles. Parking for all races except the marathon is available in the north and west parking lots of Prospector Park. Late arrivals may park along the east or west side of Idaho Road, north of the south entrance.
MARATHON TRANSPORTATION: All runners will be bused to the start. No private vehicle drop off of runners at the start line will be allowed.
There are three primary methods of getting to the marathon starting line.
(1) Park your vehicle at the Rodeo Grounds. Buses will begin loading at Prospector Park at 5:30 AM. The last bus to the start will leave Prospector Park at 6:45 AM. Clothing will be transported to the finish line and made available immediately after the race.
(2) If you have someone with you, they may drop you off at Peralta Trail Elementary School. This is drop off only, and any unattended cars will be towed. Buses will begin loading at 6:00 AM and the last bus will leave Peralta Trail Elementary School at 6:55 AM. The "Straggler Bus" (it won't fit everyone) leaves at 7:05 AM. Clothing will be transported to the finish line and made available immediately after the race.
(3) For guests of the Gold Canyon Golf Resort (Host Hotel), a shuttle will depart the hotel at 6:30 AM and arrive at the start line at approximately 7:00 AM.
