The 39th Annual Las Vegas Marathon is expected to draw more than 10,000 racers, many of them International Elite runners. For the first time, the prize money will be in excess of $100,000. Over the next three years, Devine Racing, L.L.C. is committed to spending $2.3 million in advertising and public relations to promote the Las Vegas Marathon and OPERATION MARATHON.
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver and two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip will run the Las Vegas Marathon and has made a commitment to raise $1 million benefiting Victory Junction Gang Camp in an effort called ?OPERATION MARATHON, Going the Distance for Kids.? Additionally, Waltrip has teamed up with Devine Racing in a five-year agreement to support OPERATION MARATHON. For every person who signs up to run in this year?s Las Vegas Marathon, Devine Racing will donate $10 to the cause.
Featuring a Marathon and Half Marathon on January 30th and the Operation Marathon International Friendship 5K n January 29th, the race will capture the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. World class entertainment will be added this year, with a major national touring band to play the awards ceremonies. There will be an entire ?marathon village? at the Mandolay Bay Entertainment Complex, where the races will culminate in a large celebration befitting this international city.
Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world and 2005 is the city?s Centennial 100th anniversary. The time is right for Devine Racing to take the Las Vegas Marathon into world-class stature.? With a fast, flat course ending in Nevada?s largest public park, The Las Vegas marathon anticipates rapid growth in coming years.
