On National Trails Day, the first Saturday of June, the Foothills Rails-to-Trails Coalition sponsors the Rainier to Ruston Rail-Trail Relay and Ultra (R2R).
The Rainier to Ruston attracts both relay runners and ultras, who race the entire 52-mile course solo from Mt. Rainier to Puget Sound. Relay runners tackle the course in 12 legs of 3-6 miles each, with team members in 2, 3, 4, or 6 positions, alternating through the 12 legs. For example, a team of 6 runners would do 2 legs each; a team of 4 would do 3 legs each; 3 would do 4 legs; and 2 would do 6 legs.
Registration is through our web site at http://www.rainiertoruston.com/. Although the purpose of this event is primarily to raise public awareness of the Foothills Trail, donations will be gratefully accepted, as it is a fundraiser as well, helping us to achieve our mission of completing this beautiful public trail from The Mountain to the Sound.
